Domus Academy was born in Milan in 1982 as an open project around the Italian design and fashion experience. During the years, DA also asserted its importance as a school, in the full meaning of the term: a place of post-graduate training and research laboratory on the processes of industrial creativity, on the aesthetic and consumption scenarios, on space and time relationship, on the form of public and private services and on the radical changes deriving from the diffusion of the "Web". Strongly rooted in Italy, Domus Academy works in an international perspective, in order to enrich, spread and update the design culture. Domus Academy is a real point of connection between design, fashion and management culture. Domus Academy is conceived as a big research lab, exploring future scenarios. The presence of multi-disciplinary teams, together with the rich cultural background of the students and the focus on the research, typical of Italian Design, are the main features of the school. Domus Academy’s approach is that of the learning by doing, meaning learning through study, research and development of ideas and projects based on real companies’ requests and needs, with the aim of transferring the students the know-how needed to work at the top professional level. The evolution of a System like Fashion not only requires a creator able to design the collections, but it demands a professional figure with more interdisciplinary competences, able to manage and dialogue with the several fields of the Fashion System itself. The fashion designer of today is also Manager and Art Director, able to guide and coordinate the corporate project from the product, to communication and retail aspects. The education offer of the school comes from and evolves in order to respond to the new and growing needs of an increasingly complex market: the Master in Fashion Design, the Master in Accessories Design and the brand new Master in Fashion Management, which will see its first edition in January 2010. The three MA programmes offer an overview on the Fashion System, to guarantee a constantly updated training, providing the students with the tools for a future vision of how to operate in this more and more hybrid system. The features characterizing Domus Academy’s MA in the fashion area are: the constant relation with the professional world – Fashion Designers, Fashion Managers and Companies invited as professors and lecturers - , the active presence to the appointments of the Made in Italy – Trade Fairs and Runaways – and the constant participation to special projects aimed at supporting alumni.

The Politecnico Calzaturiero is a key player in the culture of shoe production in the vibrant and prestigious environment of Riviera del Brenta. It is a culture that has been profoundly influential for centuries, in terms of both quantity and quality, and the strength of the Centro Veneto Calzaturiero derives from the fact that it has had the drive and ability to connect tradition with the future. The Politecnico Calzaturiero Veneto was set up in 2001 to provide operators of the shoe industry with decisive responses to their development and service needs. A long tradition of quality, craftsmanship of the highest standard, and the determination to look constantly to the future find full expression in the work of the Politecnico. One of the areas to which the Politecnico Calzaturiero has a strong commitment is training. The school’s teaching staff is made up of entrepreneurs, professional designers and technical experts from the industry who offer high quality teaching and ongoing development of training programmes and opportunities. One of the most significant of these is the three-month Course for Footwear Stylists and Model Makers which offers a route for talented young people to embark on a successful career in the shoe industry. In more general terms, the work of the Politecnico Calzaturiero involves: - running the School for Footwear Model Makers and Technicians which has provided diploma courses since 1923 to prepare young people to become designers, model makers and shoe production technicians; - developing permanent training initiatives for young diploma holders and seminars for young entrepreneurs; working alongside Professional and Technical Institutes to train young people for careers in the shoe industry. The School for Shoe Model Makers is distinguished from other shoe industry schools in Italy and Europe, by the mixture of four fundamental aspects that cannot be found in any other training schools: Traditions - the School was founded in 1923 and in its 78 years of history, besides receiving numerous awards at local, national and European level, it has also contributed to the growth of the shoe industry in the Veneto, with the greater part of entrepreneurs, model makers and technicians who now operate in our Region having sat at its desks. Not by chance the Brenta Rivera is famous throughout the world for the quality and style of the women's shoes that are designed and manufactured here, and it is one of the areas of the highest density of model making studios for the design and production of samples for Companies throughout the world, while Montebelluna is the world leader for the design and production of many different types of sporting-technical shoes. Co-operation with the shoe industry world - co-operation with industry and, above all, with ACRIB (the Riviera del Brenta Shoe Industry Association) has been fundamental in giving an active contribution to stimulate development and modernisation. The Teaching Staff - the teachers are all business people, designers, model makers and technicians in the shoe industry, all animated by great passion and willing to dedicate a part of their time to professional training, because they feel it is important to continue the training traditions which they, in turn, had received firsthand. Synergy with the other activities of the Politecnico Calzaturiero which holds the School - for about ten years now, the School's activities have been included in the wider context of the Politecnico Calzaturiero which, besides training activities, also develops services for Technological Research, Materials Quality Control for the shoe industry. The organisation and control functions of the teachers, and the synergies of the other activities that have been developed, have granted extensive development of the programmes and teaching instruments.
